Ainsi soit-elle is back in Apeldoorn
What a celebration. Ainsi soit-elle, Maïté's large sculpture from 1992, is back in Apeldoorn.
The sculpture was bought in 1995 by the Chamber of Commerce, and later passed to the municipality of Apeldoorn. When the Chamber of Commerce building was sold to a developer last year, it was wrongly assumed that the sculpture belonged to the building, and Ainsi soit-elle ended up in Emmen.
Joost Huijsman, at the time chairman of the foundation that let the building to the Chamber of Commerce, and his colleagues Aart van der Houwen and Wim Bénard worked hard to bring the sculpture back to Apeldoorn. They have succeeded. "What a celebration. Fantastic," Huijsman says in the video report De Stentor made about the move. Since 24 November, Ainsi soit-elle has stood in the Grithof, in the middle of town, between the Beekstraat and the Kanaalstraat.
