1 to 24 March 2025: a new exhibition
In March 2025 there is a new chance to come and admire the work of Maïté Duval. Galerie ArtCore on the Marspoortstraat in Zutphen shows drawings and sculptures all month. The sculptor Maïté Duval, French by birth, died in 2019. She left a remarkable body of work of large bronze female figures. Her figurative art is much loved by collectors and held in many museum collections. In Zutphen you may know her sculpture at the Agnietenhof, Else at the Oude Bornhof and Volupté on the Deventerweg. This March, Galerie ArtCore offers the rare chance to get to know her smaller studies and her drawings as well.
Six large sculptures are on show in the Zutphen exhibition space, known among other things as the former bank where Walraven van Hall, the banker of the Dutch resistance, was director from 1931 to 1940. Alongside the moving Malade d'Amour (2002), a memory of the love of and for her late husband Thierry Rijkhart de Voogd, there is the spectacular Inspiratie, a large sculpture Maïté completed shortly before her death.
Gallery owner Cor Brandsma and the family of Maïté Duval are also showing small bronze studies and large drawings and screen prints. In that way the exhibition draws attention to a lesser known side of her artistry. Not only in bronze, but also in pencil, gouache and red chalk, Maïté Duval created a poetic and powerful world of sensuality and intimacy.
